The Development of Algebra Questions

Choose ONE of the questions listed below and write at most three sides of A4 as an answer. Diagrams should be used wherever appropriate.
- "The Algebra of the Egyptians and Babylonians was purely rhetorical". Discuss this statement, with examples.
- Discuss the methods used for dealing with quadratic equations prior to 1000 A.D.
- Describe, with examples, the contributions of Diophantus to the development of algebraic methods and notation.
- Describe, with examples, the contributions of the Hindus and Arabs to the development of Algebra in the period 500-1000 A.D.
